 Musings ~ September 8, 2010
Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~

This weekend is our September Market Days.  This is our annual “Hometown Heroes” market where we showcase many local non-profit programs that provide valuable services to our community.  As always, there will be live music and fun events for the kids.  Be sure to make the Square a destination for your Saturday, from 9AM-4PM.  There is something for everyone on the second Saturday in downtown Georgetown!

The Palace Theatre opens the 2010-2011 Season on September 24 with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, The Enchanted.  It is the beginning of an utterly enchanting season of live plays – running from September 2010 through August 2011 – at our downtown treasure, the historic Palace Theatre.  Production dates for Cinderella, The Enchanted are six weekends opening on September 24 and closing on October 31, 2010.  Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2:00 p.m.  Ticket prices are $24 General Admission, $22 Seniors (55+), $14 Students (13-22) and Active Military, and $10 Children (12 and younger).

The City Economic Development department hosted a very informative breakfast last week inside the newly restored section of the Heritage Printing building.  It was great to see what the new owners have done to update and restore the building.  Moreover, it was very encouraging to hear how the City is working behind the scenes to add infrastructure that supports new businesses.  They also are constantly working to bring new businesses to Georgetown.  Mark Thomas reiterated the commitment of the City to helping to keep downtown the vibrant heart of the community.  There is much to look forward to.
